State Representative Geoff Diehl said the former state Inspector General and Office of Campaign and Political Finance, agree. “The former I.G. who’s been out for I think, roughly about a year now, weighed in on this and he was clear on this in an article today. This is a quote – he said, ‘You’re not supposed to use your office for political purposes, period.’ An O.C.P.F. representative also weighed in on the same article and said that law prohibits the use of public resources for political purposes, including ballot questions and that extends to employee time and government email. Those two statements are clear, that this is a violation.”

Marty Lamb, Steve Aylward, and state Rep. Geoff Diehl, R-Whitman, chairmen of Stop Automatic Tax Hikes, filed a complaint with the State Ethics Commission, alleging that the email shows that public employees are using public resources in a “concerted campaign in opposition to this ballot initiative,” in clear violation of the state’s conflict-of-interest laws.
