Diehl Announces Plan for Senate
Whitman, MA …Today State Representative and candidate for State Senate, Geoff Diehl (R-Whitman), announced his plan to serve the people of Brockton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Halifax, Hanover, Hanson, Plympton, and Whitman as the next State Senator.
“I believe it is important to have a proactive agenda,” said Diehl. “I have made a positive difference for the House district. I will work even harder for the Senate district.”
The Real Diehl Plan includes:
- Hold office hours each week in each community. Diehl will publish his office hours on Facebook and his website, release out to the newspapers, and email constituents.
- Open a district office in Brockton. Diehl wants assistance to be directly accessible.
- Hold educational town hall meetings. Diehl will bring in experts and officials from the administration into the district to keep the public informed on issues and services available.
- Work to create a Main Street Brockton incubator program to encourage business development. Having worked for years in Brockton, Diehl wants to be part of the solution in reviving the city.
- Create a business leader roundtable to directly advise elected officials on the needs of the business community.
- Hold monthly meetings with local elected officials.
- Vote against all tax increases so people can keep more of their paycheck and savings.
- Work to increase local aid and stop unfunded mandates.
- Have one staff person dedicated to helping seniors with their issues.
“I have proven as a State Representative that I will go above and beyond what is required to get the job done. It was no small effort in repealing automatic gas taxes and doing the research on finding the savings. I will do even more as a State Senator,” said Diehl. “I will work on the major issues confronting our state and the taxpayers, but I will also be the accessible Senator needed to help the constituents. People can count on me to continue to work to cut taxes and create jobs along with moving this district forward.”
“We need to revitalize Brockton. It is time to consider an enterprise type zone or another plan to get people working again,” said Diehl who supports the expansion of Massasoit Community College and the Bridgewater/UMASS downtown Brockton campus.
About Rep. Geoff Diehl
Elected on November 2, 2010 as State Representative of the 7th Plymouth District (Abington, East Bridgewater & Whitman), Geoff was inaugurated on January 5th, 2011, to the 187th Great and General Court of Massachusetts.
At a very early age Geoff’s parents taught him the value of hard work, education and honesty. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout by the age of 16, graduated from Lehigh University with a double major, worked in advertising and television, and on a blind date in New York City, met South Shore native KathyJo Boss. One year later, they were married.
Moving to her home town of Whitman, Geoff became an Account Executive at SignDesign in Brockton and then at Poyant Signs, while also assisting KathyJo with opening Boss Academy of Performing Arts in the neighboring town of Hanson.
They have two daughters, Kaylee and Emily, and are involved with many local organizations. KathyJo is Director of Whitman Youth Cheerleading, is a member of the Whitman Cultural Council and supports Hanson’s Little League and D.A.R.E. program. Geoff is a member of the Abington Lions Club, the East Bridgewater Business Association, the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and the MetroSouth Chamber of Commerce. He also is a Member of the Board of the BSA Old Colony Council.
In 2010, Geoff was elected State Representative. He has led the fight for more transparency, accountability of our tax dollars and protecting taxpayers.
In 2013, when the legislature linked the gas tax to inflation, which means our gas taxes were going to increase every year automatically, Geoff stepped forward to lead the ballot question to repeal the tax. His grassroots team collected 146,000 signatures to get the question on the ballot. Powerful special interest groups pumped in millions of dollars to try to defeat Geoff’s effort. Despite being outspent 31 to 1, automatic gas taxes were repealed last November. Geoff saved taxpayers from a $2 billion gas tax increase!
Right after passing the repeal of automatic gas tax hikes, it came to light that there was an effort to increase legislative pay. The proposal included a 75% increase for legislative leaders. Once again, Geoff stepped forward to protect the taxpayers and he successfully stopped the pay raises!
Geoff has also led the effort to stop taxpayers from having to fund the Olympics. Hosting the Olympics Games has cost taxpayers billions of dollars, because the International Olympic Committee requires the hosting government to sign an agreement that taxpayers will cover any cost overruns. Cost overruns average 179%. That would mean a multi-billion bailout for Massachusetts taxpayers. Right now, Geoff is working to pass another ballot question that would allow the Olympics to come to Massachusetts but only if taxpayers are held harmless.
During his 5 years in office, Geoff has fought for more transparency at the State House, worked to increase jobs, fought for more local aid and always been accessible.
As State Representative, he has worked full time for the people. He holds weekly office hours throughout the district. He will be a full time State Senator.
